For Wildlife Sake.........
Valle Mining Company currently holds 500 acres of its 4500 acre forest in 3 Wildlife Refuges. This 4 year old program has worked surprisingly well. Wildlife now flourishes in all three Refuge areas once mined with black powder and mules. This program relies totally on private funds and volunteers.
Re-establishing wildlife and their habitat is very important. In our lifetime alone, many species of wildlife have become either extinct or endangered. When some of the local Missouri wildlife that we took for granted and enjoyed seeing when we were children disappeared at Valles Mines, we reacted. Thanks to Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic in Fenton, Mo. we now have released several relocated species whose homes were no longer viable in urban areas. Aside from the ground hogs who ate the garden their first year, releases have gone well. We even had the Mayor of Town & Country come down to see about releasing their extra deer although Conservation chose to send them much farther away. We certainly have the room...
In order to keep this wildlife/habitat program alive and someday to expand it, we ask visitors to leave a donation in the drop box of the Paymaster's Shack, 14116 Valles Mines School Road.
For Yourself..............
This money is used to help improve habitat, for taxes, and for insurance on the land. We hope you will have the satisfaction of knowing that doing your part for wildlife secures benefits both now and in the future. Bring your children. When you join Adopt An Acre, you receive a map of the three wildlife preserves and a no-hunting permit. This permit welcomes you to hike, bike, and primitive camp on the 400 acres at almost any time. (Fishing is offered separately under our recreation program. On sites outside the Refuge Areas, you can reserve private camping tracts up to 375 acres with an annual recreation permit. 4WD or the equivalent may be required to reach the more remote sites.)
